Qualcomm announced 2 new mobile platforms today – Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630.
This is not a surprising news as there was already word that Qualcomm would be unveiling these 2 mobile platforms on 9th May.
Kedar Kondap, vice President, Product Management, Qulacomm Technologies, Inc. said, “With the introduction of the Snapdragon 660 and 630 Mobile Platforms, we are thrilled that features such as improved image quality and fast LTE speeds will now be available in a wide array of devices without sacrificing performance or quality”.
Here are the features of both the mobile platforms:
The CPU of Snapdragon 660 with support up to 8 Kryo 260 cores where 4 cores run at 2.2GHz and 4 cores run at 1.8GHz.
The CPU of Snapdragon 630 with support up to 8 Cortex A-53 cores where 4 cores run at 2.2GHz and other 4 cores run at 1.8GHz.
The GPU of Snapdragon 660 uses Adreno 512 on Vulkan API.
The GPU of Snapdragon 630 uses Adreno 508 on Vulkan API as well.
Snapdragon 660 uses Hexagon 642+ HVX, All Ways Aware, Spectra 160 co-processors whereas Snapdragon 630 co-processors are Hexagon, All Ways Aware, Spectra 160.
Snapdragon 660 supports X12 LTE, 600Mbps down, 150Mbps up, 3 x 20MHz CA, up to 256-QAM.
Snapdragon 630 supports X12 LTE, 600Mbps down, 150Mbps up, 3 x 20MHz CA, up to 256-QAM.
SD660 as well as SD630 both supports Bluetooth v5.0
Both the mobile platforms support Quick Charge 4.0. Besides Quick Charge 4.0, SD660 gives users 2hours of extra battery life.
Interestingly, Quick Charger 4 claims to give 5hours of battery in 5minutes.
660 allows QHD display whereas 630 supports 1080p display.
The upgraded specs for Snapdragon 660 means that in the camera front it can provide better support for dual camera, enhanced image processing capabilities, depth mapping, eye tracking.
Besides, both the mobile platforms can now support 4K video recording very easily.
Both the mobile platforms have 14nm process.
SD660 will be present in devices by the end of this quarter, but SD630 devices will not be available anytime before 3rd quarter.
