Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 launched

Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 has managed to be in the news since it’s first news about being announced in China.

However, this mobile platform was launched alongside Qualcomm Snapdragon 630. Just after the launch, we could see many phones popping up that will come with Snapdragon 660 chipset.

SD660 will be present in devices by the end of this quarter, but SD630 devices will not be available anytime before 3rd quarter.

Kedar Kondap, vice President, Product Management, Qulacomm Technologies, Inc. said, “With the introduction of the Snapdragon 660 and 630 Mobile Platforms, we are thrilled that features such as improved image quality and fast LTE speeds will now be available in a wide array of devices without sacrificing performance or quality”.

660 allows QHD display and will also support Fast Charging by Quick Charge 4.0 technology.

The upgraded specs for SD660 means that in the camera front it can provide better support for dual camera, enhanced image processing capabilities, depth mapping, eye tracking.

SD660 will have built-in X12 LTE and Adreno 512. They will also be equipped to support Bluetooth v5.0

Here is a screenshot of GeekBench scores of the mobile platform (SD660). Here are the scores for single core and multi-core tests.

Snapdragon 660

As you can see, the single core results yield a score of 1599 at a frequency of 1.84GHz and a score of 5639 for multi-core at a frequency of 1.84GHz as well.

SD660 was considered as an upgraded version of SD653. These scores are not only better than Snapdragon 653 but also better when compared to Snapdragon 821.

So you can make a mental note to compare the SD660 devices with phones that run on SD821 i.e Xiaomi 5S and Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus, etc.

I just hope that the pricing of the upcoming phones with this processor does not shoot up after these GeekBench scores.
