The handset in question have been making numerous visits to the rumour mill but we all were waiting for any kind of official confirmation. Well, we finally have it. Xiaomi Redmi 5 appears on a Chinese telecom website.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Official
Before I can take any screenshot, the listing was taken down but I still got a confirmation on the specifications and overall look of the device. Yes, it’s having 18:9 aspect ratio screen and rear mounted fingerprint scanner.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC is powering the handset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. As per the reports and Xiaomi’s pricing strategies, this could be again a cheapest SD625 running handset on Indian market.
The screen measures 5.7-inch with very thin bezels. The 18:9 aspect ratio is clearly onboard with HD+ resolution, offering a media-rich experience. This all confirms the on-going rumours.
A single 12MP shooter at rear and a 5MP selfie shooter is what the camera department holds. The rear side features dual-LED flash and other standard camera features. Rear mounted speakers are seen in the pictures along with microUSB port.
The only downside I noticed was the 3300mAh battery which was earlier expected to be around 4100mAh. 1399 Yuan was the pricing mentioned for the device which roughly converts to 13k INR but it can be available for even less as Xiaomi is boosting their manufacturing department in India itself.

And yes, Xiaomi is clearly ditching the ‘Note’ from the branding in this case. How do you feel about it?
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Launch Date
As per the deleted listing, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 launch date will be before December 10, 2017 as it will start shipping on Dec 10. This leaves us with a release date in either this or the next week.
Are you expecting a Plus variant of this device? I am! All hell for Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
As I updated this last night, Xiaomi was busy putting teasers for the Redmi 5. The teasers and new information flooding the internet have confirmed everything I posted last night. Here is the first teaser.
The front camera is featuring a soft LED flash that will attract the selfie nerds. As you can notice in the second Xiaomi Redmi 5 teaser, the handset will be featuring a bunch of beauty modes and filters.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus variant is also in tow featuring 5.99-inch display with similar specs. 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage will be the two variants.
