Do you spend regular hours on Twitter and Facebook? Then you must have heard this name before. Yu Yutopia was seriously, one of the most hyped smartphones this year, and a few moments ago, it was officially unveiled in an event at New Delhi. The company behind this device is Yu Televentures, which is backed by none other than Micromax itself.
The device, as tipped in the teasers running so far, aims towards the flagship killer target of OnePlus 2 and other similar names in the competition. The specs and features included in the device are better than what OnePlus 2 has been offering till now, and it carries the same 24,999 INR price tag.
The key thing to note here is a Snapdragon 810 SoC, 2k resolution 5.2inch QHD display, and 4GB of RAM. The handset uses aircraft-grade aluminium build and measures approx 7.2mm while weighing at 159 grams. Yu has also featured the Saturn ring across the rear camera which we’ve seen in its previous device as well. The design is symmetrical to what we’ve already seen in the last device from the company, but the new inclusion in Yutopia is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Moving further with the specifications in detail, the display used here is from Sharp, which is globally known for its quality screens, and it uses OGS technology to be even better. The pixel density achieved in this ratio is 565ppi, which is definitely sharp.
At the CPU, octa-core processor is added which is clocked at 2GHz. It is further coupled with Adreno 430 GPU and uses the LPDDR4 RAM. The internal storage offered inside is 32GB with the option to expand further up to 128GB. The Qualcomm SoC used inside also brings QuickCharge 2.0 to the table which helps the phone to recharge up to 60% within 30 minutes. Faster LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and microUSB port are also onboard. It can take two SIM cards, one of nano size and other of micro size.
At the camera side, the rear holds a 21MP shooter which is manufactured by Sony (modelled IMX230) and it uses a 5P lens along with OIS. Dual-LED flash is also placed aside to power the low-light snapping. The front side is dominated by an 8MP shooter which is having the 5P lens, again. The key thing to note here is that the 4k video recording is possible with the rear camera.
Now, the traditional part of Yu, i.e., the software is powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS which is custom developed by Cyanogen. To be exact, Cyanogen OS 12.1 is what booting the device and the company has also assured for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade in the near future.
As pointed in the teasers, Yutopia didn’t come alone, as the company has launched a new app, named Around Yu, which brings a single platform to look for day-to-day stuff like hotel booking, flight booking, traditional online shopping, food shopping, etc. All these services are covered under a single hood which is available at right swipe from the home screen. Apart from this, Cyanogen based customization options are pre-loaded along with some other apps like Gaana.
Now, if this whole deal isn’t looking impressive enough, then Yu is offering a few freebies along with some buying offers at Amazon. The Yu Yutopia will arrive with House of Marley headsets, which are known for their premium quality, along with a screen protector and a protective case.
As we’re aware of the Yu partnership, the Yutopia will be exclusively available at Amazon. The pre-order for Yutopia has already begun (available only in Grey color), and the device will start shipping on December 26. One more thing you’ll note at the listing is that the device is actually priced 29,999 INR, so Yu is starting the sell with flat 5k INR discount.
Do you think this is a real flagship or the one you’ve been waiting for? Not to forget, this phone is truly a ‘Made in India’ product.
