Samsung just announced the largest capacity solid state drive (SSD). The SSD will have a massive storage of ~30TB. Interestingly, Samsung has already started mass production of this device. These will be handy for enterprises who have to store a large amount of data.
The SSD would be made with the latest V-NAND technology with 64-layer, 3-bit 512-gigabit (GB) chip. With the given technical specs, the device is supposed to form twice better than the previous SSD models in terms of storage as well as performance.
Jaeson Han, executive VP, Memory Sales & Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics said,”With our launch of the 30.72TB SSD, we are once again shattering the enterprise storage capacity barrier, and in the process, opening up new horizons for ultra-high capacity storage systems worldwide. Samsung will continue to move aggressively in meeting the shifting demand towards SSDs over 10TB and at the same time, accelerating adoption of our trail-blazing storage solutions in a new age of enterprise systems.”
Samsung said,”The wide range of models and much-improved performance will be pivotal in meeting the growing storage needs in a host of market segments, including the government, financial services, healthcare, education, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, social media, business services, retail, and communication sectors.”
The new SSD would provide an improved endurance level for one full drive write per day, every day, for the next five years. PM1643 will give a mean time between failures of two million hours.
The initial quantities have already been manufactured by Samsung in January and want to expand this lineup later with 15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB and 800GB ones.
