The government of India took an initiative to monitor the health conditions of kid at aanganwadi via smartphone. This initiative was taken by Government along with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation who had distributed a total of 62,000 smartphones across 46 districts across 6 states. The states include Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.
As expected and unwanted it is, 12,000 kids were discovered who were severely malnutritioned in 46 districts across 6 states. Maneka Gandhi, Women and Child Development Minister said,”We have given over 50,000 cellphones to aanganwadi workers through which they give us daily reports on how many children were provided food, how many were weighed, etc.”
A notice has been sent to the parents of the 12,000 students who have been found to be malnutritioned. Not just children, 3 lakh pregnant and lactating mothers are also covered in this program. Every aanganwadi worker is supposed to prepare her work chart, survey houses around, take attendance and send pictures of hot cooked food being served to children using the smartphone.
Also, while distributing ration (grocery), the worker is supposed to scan barcode and update the necessary information about the delivery and so on and so forth.
Keeping a tab on food as well as health will help keep the child healthy from the beginning. A senior official said,”We will have daily figures of stunting, under-nutrition, over-nutrition instead of decal information provided by the health ministry.”
Since the plan is working out as planned, Government has even planned to reach out to 1,50,000 aanganwadis across 77 districts in 8 states. Keeping things digital will keep the records clean and any error will help detect the right person.
